New Delhi: South films like ‘Pushpa’, ‘Kantara’, Bahubali were liked all over India. Korona was gasping at the time of epidemic, even then South’s films were rocking the box office. Today the audience’s inclination has moved towards South Cinema. Famous director Neeraj Ghevan gave the special reason for this. When he reached the screen Writers Association of India (SWA) event, he explained why South films are successful in performing well?
The director of ‘Masaan’ said that South’s films are performing well, as they pay lively experiences compared to the superficial characters. According to IANS report, he said, ‘I think the South Film Industry is doing so well because their characters are connected to the roots and are real. Here (in Bollywood) characters are made for a special audience. It has to pass through Bandra. It does not look real. In the process of making the film special for a particular audience, things are lost that makes it real.

Anu Singh Chaudhary, the author of ‘Mrs.’ and ‘Arya’, organized a season called ‘Alternative Reality’, in which Neeraj Ghevan also paid attention to the lack of ‘independent funding’ for films- which is in Europe, but Not in India. He said that it has made it difficult for Indie cinema to succeed. The filmmaker revealed, ‘The challenge is to make what you want while retaining your honesty with the studio. Recovery comes only by casting music or a particular actor. You have to struggle to achieve your goal.
Concern expressed over the plight of cinema
Filmmakers Shoojit Sarkar, Megha Ramaswamy and Kanu Bahl also attended the panel discussion with Neeraj Ghevan. Kanu Bahl, known for films like ‘Titli’ and ‘Agra’, said, ‘Independent cinema is over. This is such a black hole where you do not know whether whatever work you are doing will ever be made or not.

Famous screenwriters and creators like Shoojit Sarkar, C Prem Kumar, Christo Tommy, Hemant M. Rao, Vivek Athreya, Vishwapati Sarkar and Anand Tiwari attended the seventh edition of the Indian screenplay Write Conference and shared their experiences. He told how they deal with the changing situation of the industry and its ‘new reality’.
