New Delhi. Kiran Rao’s film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscar Awards 2025. The ‘Film Federation of India’ made this announcement here on Monday. With this, Kiran Rao’s dream has also come true.
Let us tell you, this Hindi film of Kiran Rao has been selected from 29 films which include Bollywood’s hit film ‘Animal’, Malayalam’s National Award winner ‘Attam’ and Cannes Film Festival winner ‘All We Imagine as Light’.
Kiran Rao’s film ‘Missing Ladies’ will represent India at Oscars 2025.
The 13-member selection committee, headed by Assamese film director Jahnu Barua, selected Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao ‘Missing Ladies’ produced by has been unanimously selected for the Best International Film category at the Academy Awards.
Tamil film ‘Maharaja’, Telugu film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and ‘Hanu-Man’ along with Hindi films ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ and ‘Article 370’ were in the race to be included in this category. Last year, Malayalam superhit film ‘2018: Everyone is a Hero’ was sent as India’s official entry for the Oscars.
Let us tell you, ‘Laapata Ladies’, produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, marked Kiran Rao’s return to direction after ‘Dhobi Ghat’. Before its theatrical release, the film was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. It received a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival.
