‘IC814’ is based on a true incident
The hijackers took Flight 814 to several places including Amritsar, Lahore and across the Persian Gulf to Dubai. They finally forced the plane to land in Kandahar, Afghanistan, which was then under the control of the Taliban. The hijackers released 27 of the 176 passengers in Dubai, but stabbed several people, killing one. The purpose of the hijacking was to secure the release of Islamist terrorists Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Masood Azhar and Pakistan-backed Kashmiri terrorist Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, who were jailed in India. These three terrorists were later found to be involved in other terrorist attacks such as the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament, the kidnapping and murder of Daniel Pearl in 2002, the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai, the 2016 Pathankot attack and the 2019 Pulwama attack. ‘IC814’ is scheduled to release on Netflix on August 29.
