New Delhi. Raj Kapoor, rich in versatile talent, is a veteran of Hindi cinema, whom every lover of cinema knows. He established RK Studio at the age of just 24. By the 1950s, he was one of the most popular names in the film industry. His films were loved in the former Soviet Union and after the Second World War he often represented India on the international stage. Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi recently talked about Raj Kapoor. He told that he believed that no matter how influential someone is, he has to bow before the government.
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kabir Bedi remembered Raj Kapoor and talked about him. He told about the advice that the veteran actor and filmmaker Raj Saheb once gave him. Kabir Bedi said- ‘Raj Kapoor once told me, ‘Kabir, no matter how big a filmmaker I am, I will have to bow before the government because censorship is something that can ruin.
Didn’t make films like ‘Shree 420’ and ‘Awara’ again
Raj Saheb had said, ‘If filmmakers want that their films do not get ruined, then they will have to make such films which are not disliked by the government.’ In the 1950s, Raj Saheb’s films ‘Shree 420’ and ‘Awaara’ dealt with the themes of unemployment and lack of education. These films were against the government. But later Raj Kapoor made such films in which other aspects of the society were shown, these films were not directly against the government.
Used to support films the government disliked
Kabir said that Raj still supported those films which the government did not like. The actor further said- Raj Kapoor had said, ‘But this does not mean that filmmakers do not make films which the government dislikes. This is everyone’s right and they should do this because in a democracy people have the right to express their views.
Raj Kapoor had influence in Soviet Union
Let us tell you that Raj Kapoor’s influence in the Soviet Union was so much that he made several trips to Russia in the 1950s. Due to his popularity in the country, many cultural exchanges took place between the two countries and relations were strengthened which continues even today.
