There have been many changes in the entertainment industry since Covid. Especially Bollywood is facing a lot of challenges these days. 90 percent of the films out of 100 are not running, so many films are not able to reach the theatres. Recently I was watching a film. This is a small budget film, in which an actor like Amit Sial is seen in the lead role and the name of this film is ‘Tikadam’. You can watch this film on Jio Cinema.
I liked the film, but the question arises that why such films are not released in theatres? When OTT was not a trend in our country, even the smallest films were released in theatres. I saw another film on OTT, ‘Maharaja’. The most special thing about this film was that Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan made his debut in films with it. There is no doubt that the film was very good and it kept trending on OTT for many days. Now here also the question arises that why was the debut film of the son of a Bollywood superstar released on OTT?
Among the challenges we are talking about for Bollywood, the biggest challenge for them is OTT. The trend of OTT had started in our country even before Covid, but people were not able to come to this platform from the cinema halls. I remember at that time Netflix and Alt Balaji were trying to increase their reach, but after Covid, when the time of lockdown came, OTT emerged as the only means of entertainment for people sitting at home and within no time it started ruling from mobile to TV and then directly on the hearts of the people.
During this time, OTT presented such content to the audience that people’s thinking about films changed and web series played the biggest role in this. When the lockdown was lifted and cinemas reopened, people started talking about original content and the original content they wanted was found in some South films. Due to this, South films dominated the Indian box office. Then there were some Bollywood films too, which were liked by the people, in which ‘The Kashmir Files’ was mainly included.
This trend continues till now. If we talk about 2024, then apart from films like Stree 2, Fighter, Kalki, Shaitan, Crew, Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Munjya, Bad News, no other film could do much wonders. In fact, many people now wait for the release of the film on streaming services OTT instead of going to the cinema to watch the film. It is a big challenge for the makers to bring the audience back to the theaters. This is the reason why the makers are trying to do something different. Now they have started working on their master plan.
Now you must be wondering what is the master plan of the makers? Let us tell you, these days you must be watching many hit films of the 90s in theaters and some are about to be released. Films like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun have been re-released and now the makers are going to release 3 more old films on August 30, which mainly include Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Tumbbad and Gangs of Wasseypur. Actually, the makers must be doing this so that they can bring people back to the theaters. Now only time will tell how successful the makers are in this, but it is certain that it will be very difficult to bring back the audience who have gone to OTT.
