Earlier in the day, police had told the media that the alleged attacker Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad was a Bangladeshi national who had changed his name to Bijoy Das after entering India illegally. The police registered a case against the accused under sections 311 of the Indian Justice Code (causing grievous hurt or causing death during robbery or dacoity), 331 (4) (house breaking) and other relevant provisions of the Passport Act, 1967, the official said.
