After the demise of legendary singer Mukesh, Raj Kapoor was looking for a fresh voice for his films. Music director Laxmikant Pyarelal introduced Suresh Wadekar to Raj Kapoor Sahab. Raj Kapoor Sahab gave new name to Suresh Wadekar as Mukesh Chand and said that as long as I am alive, RK Films will sing this. However, Raj Kapoor Sahab’s son wanted to marry another famous singer. On the 100th birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor Sahab, Suresh Wadekar, while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, shared some special stories related to him.

Referring to his first meeting with the showman of Indian cinema Raj Kapoor Sahab, Suresh Wadekar said – When Laxmikant Pyarelal ji called that you are singing for Raj Kapoor Sahab, I could not believe my ears. am? Was recording a song at that time. After finishing the recording, Laxmikant reached Pyarelal ji’s house. Raj Saheb was sitting. I touched his feet. He held my hand and said that you had come in an air conditioned car. Imagine, what kind of observations he had.

After legendary singer Mukesh, Suresh Wadekar has sung in Raj Saheb’s three films Prem Rog, Ram Teri Ganga Maili and Hina. Suresh Wadekar says- I consider myself very lucky to have got a chance to sing in such a big maker’s film. At the time of Ram Teri Ganga Maili, his sons felt that a big popular singer of that time should sing the song. One day Raj Saheb called me to meet him at his cottage and said that a big drama was going to happen today. My sons want some other singer to sing in the film, but as long as I am alive. Only Suresh Wadekar will sing in my film. He loved his artists and singers very much.

Raj Kapoor told Suresh Wadekar that you are my Mukesh Chand.

Suresh Wadekar says- Raj Saheb had said that Lata ji (Lata Mangeshkar) sings in my films in female voice. From now on, you will sing in male voice in all the films made in RK Studio. You are my Mukesh Chand. At that moment I had tears in my eyes. It is a great privilege to sing with such legendary people. Raj Saheb was very knowledgeable about music. He had a good understanding of how to get the singers to sing.

Hearing Bhanvere’s voice, Raj Saheb said this is what is needed in the entire song.

While sharing the story of the recording of the film ‘Prem Rog’, Suresh Wadekar says – During the recording of the song ‘Bhanvre Ne Khilaya Phool’ of Prem Rog, flutes were being played in the rehearsal. Meanwhile I made a whirring sound. Raj Saheb was present in the studio at that time. Hearing the sound they started asking who made this sound. I got scared after hearing this. I told him, Papa, please forgive me. After this he said – No, this voice is needed in the entire song.

When I got Rs 10,000 for the song, I felt that I had received someone else’s payment by mistake.

In those days one would get one thousand to fifteen hundred rupees for a song. When Raj Saheb gave Rs 10,000 in an envelope to Suresh Wadekar after the recording of the song Prem Rog was over, Suresh Wadekar felt that he had received someone’s payment by mistake. Suresh Wadekar says- I told Raj Saheb that Papa ji, perhaps I have got someone else’s envelope by mistake. He said- Why son, are you feeling low? I have never seen a person with such a big heart.

Music was like a seating festival.

Suresh Wadekar says- Music seating was like a festival for Raj Saheb. Working with him was like a home environment. Krishnaji (Raj Kapoor’s wife) used to feed everyone with love. If any rhythmist came late at the time of recording, he himself would take the tambourine and start playing. He had a lot of understanding of basic music. He taught music to his brothers Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor in their childhood.
