Saif Ali Khan Case: Accused Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammad had entered the house of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in Satguru Sharan building in Bandra in the early hours of January 16 with the intention of theft. The attacker had attacked Saif with a knife several times.
Saif Ali Khan’s attacker has been sent to police custody for 5 days.
Mumbai. The man who fatally attacked Saif Ali Khan hid in the garden of his Bandra building for two hours after stabbing him inside the Bollywood actor’s apartment during a robbery attempt on January 16. A police officer gave this information on Monday. The accused, arrested on January 19, initially tried to mislead the investigators by claiming that he was a resident of Kolkata, the officer said. However, the police caught hold of his lie and obtained his school leaving certificate from his brother living in Bangladesh on his (accused’s) mobile phone.
This certificate has become a strong evidence to prove the Bangladeshi citizenship of the 30-year-old accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Faqir, who has changed his name to Vijay Das. Citing preliminary information, the officer said, “After committing the crime (on January 16), Faqir hid for about two hours in the garden inside the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building, where Saif Ali Khan lives with his family because he was arrested. There was a fear of getting caught.”
He said that the accused entered Saif Khan’s apartment because he was looking for a huge amount of money. However, the officer did not confirm whether the accused knew that Khan lived on the upper floor of the building and decided to commit the theft. Fakir was arrested from Thane three days after the deadly attack.
An officer said, “After being caught by the police, Fakir told the police that his name is Vijay Das and he is a resident of Kolkata. However, he failed to provide any documents to support his claim. “He revealed his real name and Bangladeshi nationality during interrogation.” After this the police made Fakir call someone from his family in Bangladesh. The officer further said, “He called his brother and asked him to send his school living certificate. His brother sent it (certificate) on Fakir’s mobile phone. This document is strong evidence to prove that he is a Bangladeshi citizen.”
Saif Ali Khan (54) was stabbed multiple times in the attack, after which he underwent five-hour surgery at the nearby Lilavati Hospital. Fakir was sent to five-day police custody on Sunday. An officer said on Sunday that the police may recreate the crime scene with the accused at Khan’s house.
