Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has turned 59 today. In an acting career spanning more than 3 decades, Salman did 85 films and won 74 awards. He is also on top in charity, despite this, Salman’s life was full of controversies and he was given the title of bad boy. Controversy entered his life in the year 1998, when his name came up in the black buck hunting case and he had to go to jail. 26 years have passed since the case, but the controversy is not stopping. In the same year, the Loreng gang opened fire at Salman’s house Galaxy Apartment and conspired to murder.

The case began in Kankani village in 1998, when some villagers heard gunshots and saw Salman running away in a gypsy. The villagers said that Salman had come out waving a gun. Whereas Salman just said in the court every time that he is innocent. Three hunting cases were registered against Salman, out of which he was acquitted in 2, but in the third black buck hunting case the villagers are still adamant on their statement.

Today, on Salman Khan’s 59th birthday, we are going to tell you the story of that dark page of his life, when his name came up in the poaching case. Dainik Bhaskar reached the Kankani village of the victim, from where this story started. Know the sequential story of those 3 hunting cases-

How did the controversy start?

In the year 1998, on the intervening night of 1-2 October, at around 1 am, the sound of gunfire came from the Kankani forest, 20 kilometers away from Jodhpur. When 2 villagers came running, they saw Salman Khan sitting on the driving seat in his white Gypsy, Saif Ali Khan on the adjacent seat, 3 actresses Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were on the back seat, and 2 other people were also there at the back. When 2 other villagers tried to stop the gypsy, Salman Khan ran away waving his gun.

As soon as two eyewitnesses saw this, they lodged a complaint against Salman Khan for hunting blackbuck on the morning of 2nd October. Salman was arrested on 9 October 1998. For years, Salman has been making rounds of the court in this matter and this matter is still pending in the Jodhpur court.

Eyewitness Chhogaram’s son said – Father had noted the number of the car

To know this matter closely, Dainik Bhaskar reporter Praveen Singh reached Kankani village, 20 kilometers away from Jodhpur. Where mostly people of Bishnoi community live.

In the village we reached the house of important eyewitness and complainant Chhogaram. It was learned that Chhogaram had passed away last year, although his son Ram Niwas had memorized the story of that night.

Ram Niwas told us-

I was 10-11 years old at that time. There was a bullet fired at a distance of 100 meters from the house, hearing which father along with an uncle (Poonamchand) went after them and noted down the number of the gypsy. Father was old, so he did not watch films, so he did not know all of them. He informed the police station at night. The police did not take any action then. The villagers themselves had gone to Umaid Bhawan in search of the gypsy. There it came to light that cars had been taken on rent in the Palace. The shooting of a film was going on in the nearby fort. There it was found out who owned the car.

Chhogaram had said in the statement- I saw Salman driving a gypsy.

Chhogaram had said in his complaint that he had woken up due to Poonamchand’s voice. They saw that a vehicle was entering their fields and fields. Suspecting it to be a hunting vehicle, he sat on the back of Poonam Chand’s bike and followed the vehicle. He noted the number (RJ19.1C.2201) of the white gypsy which was carrying 7 people. Salman was driving the car and Saif was sitting with him. There were three girls in the back seat, whom he could not identify at that time.

He and Poonamchand had chased the gypsy for a long time. After going some distance, Salman reduced the speed of the gypsy and gave him a chance to overtake. As soon as he moved the bike forward, Salman took a U-turn, increased his speed and ran away. When 2 other eyewitnesses Shesharam and Mangilal tried to stop Salman’s gypsy, he went away waving a gun.

Postmortem was done again after exhuming the grave.

Following a complaint, the carcasses of two blackbucks were recovered from Kankani on 2 October 1998. According to the postmortem report made by Dr. N.P. Nepaliya, the cause of death of the deer was not hunting. After a few days, he was suspended and the deer was again taken out of the grave and postmortem was conducted. Usually this does not happen. The second report came that death was due to bullet injury.

What was Salman’s statement in the court?

The judge asked Salman- -On the night of October 2, 1998, the accused went to Kankani border in a gypsy. There, on the instigation of other accused, they shot and killed two black bucks. When the villagers arrived, did you run away in the gypsy?

Salman’s answer- I came here to shoot the film. We had tight security arrangements. In such a situation, even going out was not possible. In such a situation the question of hunting does not arise.

The judge asked Salman- The first postmortem of blackbucks was done by Dr. Nepaliya. When irregularities were found in it, a case was registered against him. After this, in the postmortem conducted by the medical board, his death was found to be due to bullet injury?

Salman’s answer- Dr. Nepaliya’s report was correct. The subsequent report is completely wrong.

Salman Khan had said- Deer died due to overeating

Salman Khan had said in AAP’s court, the first postmortem report of the black buck said that one deer died due to overeating and the other due to leg breakage and being eaten by dogs. This was the first post-mortem report. On October 2, Dr. Nepaliya (veterinarian N.P. Nepaliya) came. He examined the animals. From October 2 to October 9, when we were arrested, how would we have known that they were playing, who they had killed, where they were lying, where they might have taken them from. We did not even know that such an investigation was taking place. If we were hunting, we would go every day. You could have caught us red handed.

After 10-11 days, postmortem of those animals was done again. Those animals were buried, they were taken out and postmortem took place, which however never happens. When the show’s host Rajat Sharma said, postmortem is never done again in an animal’s case. On this Salman said, this does not happen even in the case of men. The second postmortem suggested that it might have been a gun shot.

2 cases of poaching registered due to driver Harish’s statement

When we talked to driver Harish Dulani, who was with Salman Khan in the black buck hunting case, he said that he was not with him at that time, but he was with him in the last two hunts he did.

Harish said in the police statement-

October 1, 1998 was the day of Dussehra. At around 1 pm, Salman himself asked to drive the car and made him sit in the back. Salman had driven the car into the fields of Bambor while chasing a herd of deer. After some time he returned. At around 11.45 pm, Dushyant Singh came to him and gave him the keys of another car and asked him to park the car in the parking lot of Umaid Bhawan Palace and sleep. At this time he saw that Salman was in the driving seat of the white gypsy, Saif Ali was with him and 3 actresses were in the back seat. Dushyant Singh also sat behind in that car. As soon as everyone left, Harish went to the hotel and slept.

Harish is not aware of what happened that night, but he had been with Salman when he had hunted before. Harish told-

On September 28, 1998, Salman had hunted two deers near a horse farm located near the hills of Ujila. I was with Salman Khan. He hunted, then slaughtered the deer himself with a knife and left for his hotel, Umaid Bhawan Palace. The driver took the meat in a white gypsy to Ghoda Farm, the deer was skinned and cut into pieces, which were brought to Ashirwad Hotel and cooked. It was delivered to Salman Khan.

Blood stains found in Salman’s gypsy during investigation

After the complaint was registered, the police investigated and found remains including deer skin buried in the horse farm. Deer pieces were found in Ashirwad Hotel (where the meat was cooked) and traces of blood were found in the wash basin. Blood was also found in Salman’s white Gypsy, which was presented as important evidence.

Salman’s statement in court on finding blood

The judge asked Salman- There were traces of blood on your gypsy. During investigation, it was found to be Chinkara’s blood.

Salman said in the court- That report is wrong and false.

Salman had said- Gypsy had the blood of a dance choreographer.

Salman Khan had told in your court, all this was checked by the forensic department, there was nothing like that, deer hair and this. The car in which the gypsy had taken was lying in the open. Later his forensic examination was done. Nothing came out of that either. When they asked me where this blood came from, I said it was not animal blood. This is our dance director Mr. Jai Borade, he was sitting inside the gypsy. When a speed breaker came, he held the car tightly. In such a situation, his thumb was cut by the seat breaker which is inside the Gypsy. This was that blood.

According to the statement of driver Harish Dulani, on 26-27 September 1998, Salman Khan shot a deer about 5-7 kilometers away from the horse farm and when it died, it was slaughtered. The halal deer was taken to the farm and slaughtered. A person named Om Singh, who was accompanying him on the hunt, took him along with him.

In this case, Salman Khan was considered an accused on April 10 and sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment. Salman Khan had appealed in the High Court in this case, after which he was acquitted on 25 July 2016.

Dainik Bhaskar’s team reached his village Kankani to confirm the statement of driver Harish, but came to know from the villagers that there was no news of Harish for the last several years. He does not come to the village. The number which was his is also switched off now.

Salman Khan said- Awareness spread due to my punishment

Salman Khan had said in Aap Ki Adalat, everything has a benefit. This problem happened to me. I keep going to jail, but the truth is that if they can send Salman Khan to jail in the hunting case, then all the people who play hunting have stopped hunting. Since Salman Khan has been put in jail, now the hunting has stopped. Awareness has arrived.
