Due to inflammation the muscles start becoming weak. This makes it difficult to get up and sit. When the symptoms become severe, it becomes difficult to breathe and even eat something.
so today ‘medical certificate‘I will talk about myositis. You will also learn that-
- How many types of this disease are there?
- What are its symptoms?
- What is the treatment for myositis?
What is myositis?
Myositis is a disease that forces the immune system to attack the body’s muscles. This causes chronic and progressive inflammation in the muscles. This means that the inflammation persists for a long time and keeps increasing and decreasing during this period. Sometimes this causes red or purple rashes on the skin.
What are the symptoms of myositis?
A person affected with myositis usually does not show any symptoms in the beginning. Its symptoms increase with time. In most cases this causes swelling in the body. After this, there may be problem of weakness and pain in the muscles. Apart from this, what other symptoms can there be, see in the graphic:
How many types of myositis are there?
Myositis is diagnosed based on symptoms and affected muscles. On this basis, they have been divided into five categories.
Know in detail about all types of myositis.
dermatositis
Dermatositis causes red rashes on the skin. These symptoms are usually seen on the face, neck and chest.
Due to this the skin can become dry and rough. In this, there may be a feeling of weakness in the neck, waist and shoulders along with excessive fatigue. Due to inflammation in the muscles, swallowing becomes difficult and the voice becomes very hoarse. There may be pain along with swelling in the joints.
Inclusion-body myositis
This is the only type of myositis which is more common in men than women.
Due to this, it becomes difficult to walk. If the person is sitting then there is a lot of problem in getting up. Difficulty in swallowing and talking.
Juvenile Myositis
If myositis is diagnosed in a child under 18 years of age, it is called juvenile myositis.
In this, the skin becomes swollen and purple rashes appear all over the body. There is pain in the stomach, there is problem in shampooing or combing the head. The neck muscles become so weak that there is difficulty in lifting or moving the head.
poly myositis
In this, initially the muscles above the waist become weak. After this it gradually spreads throughout the body. Every case of polymyositis is different, and most people with it also have other autoimmune diseases.
Due to this, the muscles become swollen and pain persists. In this, people often have fever and start losing weight. The voice becomes heavy and fatigue increases.
toxic myositis
Although myositis is a rare disease, toxic myositis is an even rarer type. This is often caused by side effects of certain medications or toxins. Its risk may increase due to medicines that reduce cholesterol level. Its symptoms are usually similar to other myositis.
What is the cause of myositis?
It is not yet known why myositis occurs. This may sometimes be due to other medical conditions as well. It is an autoimmune disease. It has been observed in many cases that if a person has other autoimmune diseases then he is more likely to develop myositis. The risk of myositis is higher in the following autoimmune diseases:
- Lupus- When the immune system starts eating healthy cells of the body.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis- When there is chronic inflammation in the joints and the tissues around them.
- Scleroderma- When the body starts producing too much collagen and damages the body tissues.
It has been seen in some people that this disease develops after viral infection. The risk of myositis is higher after the following viral infections:
- common cold
- influenza
- hiv
What is the treatment for myositis?
There is no treatment available for myositis. However, its symptoms can be reduced with the help of some medicines and exercises. In this, an attempt is made to reduce the swelling of the muscles and also to remove lethargy or weakness. In its treatment, some steroids, immuno suppressants and intravenous immunoglobulin are given.
The doctor may recommend stretching and exercises to make the affected muscles flexible and strong. This can help in reducing joint pain and stiffness.
Apart from this, doctors can advise to follow a special diet to deal with this disease.
