Delhi: Today we will tell you about a film which was made by Sholay director Ramesh Sippy. In which the army of superstars i.e. veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Sunil Dutt, Shashi Kapoor were seen together in the film. Yes, the name of this film was ‘Shaan’, which was released on 12 December 1980. Let us tell you that this film was one of the most expensive films in the history of Hindi cinema, which took a long time of three years to make. After the success of ‘Sholay’, Salim-Javed’s story and Ramesh Sippy’s direction had raised the expectations of the audience to the sky, but after the release, the film was just average at the box office.
The story had drama, action and revenge
Let us tell you that the story of ‘Shaan’ starts with the murder of police officer Shiv (Sunil Dutt). After this, his two brothers, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), who were earlier thugs, reform and decide to take revenge on Shiv’s murderer. A sharpshooter Rakesh (Shatrughan Sinha) also joins them. Together, these three face the powerful and dangerous villain Shakal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda).
Shakal: Bollywood’s ‘Bond’ villain
Let us tell you that the role of Shakal was inspired by the villain Blofeld of James Bond films. His bald head, stylish physique, and ferocious moves made him one of the memorable villains of Hindi cinema.
Music and Production
Let us tell you that R.D. Burman’s music added charm to the film. The songs of the film, especially “Pyaar Karne Waale” and “Jaaneman Jaaneman”, are still remembered. This film is counted among the last songs sung by Mohammed Rafi.
Didn’t get that kind of success even after stars
Let us tell you that the story of ‘Shaan’ had excellent sets, wonderful costumes and a lot of action, but this film could not give the audience the same thrill as ‘Sholay’. However, later the film did good business in reruns and gradually made a place in the hearts of the audience.
