Director Suraj Barjatya wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. However, later the matter did not work and he cast Saif Ali Khan in that role.
Suraj said, ‘Many years ago we were talking about Saif’s role. This is a very old thing. Suraj revealed this in a Bollywood bubble interview.

Saif Ali Khan was nervous during the shooting
Suraj Barjatya said some time ago that Saif Ali Khan was very nervous during the shooting of the film. At that time Saif was going through a bad phase in his career. Suraj had said, ‘When films do not work, the actors are a little shaken. Due to this, Saif was also nervous. For the first time he played such a big role, that too with such big actors. He lived in a lot of pressure, worked very hard. He used to repeat the script lines again and again.
Saif did not sleep at night for fear of shooting
Suraj had told that during the shooting of the song ‘Suno Ji Dulhan’, Saif had to act of Mahesh Thakur and Alok Nath. Because of this, Saif could not sleep all night. Suraj had said, ‘I had asked Amrita (Saif’s first wife) why he is not able to act properly. Then Amrita told that Saif does not sleep all night, see the glass and keep wondering how they will do all this.
Then I asked Amrita to give some medicine to Saif and put them to sleep. Then the next day a changed avatar of Saif was seen and he gave full shot in a single tech.

The film was a hit at the box office
The 1999 film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ featured actors like Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre, Tabu. Made in the 19 crore budget, the film earned 81.71 crores worldwide.
