In the European country Spain, warnings like tobacco (which is harmful for health) will soon be seen on smartphones. A committee of experts has given advice to the Spanish government regarding the use of smartphones. In this, companies selling smartphones in the country have been advised to label health hazards on the phones.
Apart from this, the committee in its report has also advised doctors in the country to ask about their screen time while treating patients. Spain is preparing to enact a law to control children’s smartphone use. A 50-member committee was formed for its draft.
There are currently more than 34 million smartphone users in Spain.
Limited access for children up to 13 years
The committee formed for the law related to the use of smartphones has advised to control the use of digital devices for children up to 13 years of age. In this 250-page report, it has been recommended that children should not be given digital devices till the age of 3 years.
Children up to 6 years of age should be given this device only when absolutely necessary. Children aged between 6 to 12 years have been asked to give permission to use phones without internet. Also, such children have been advised to do sports and outdoor activities for entertainment.
In Spain, 88% of children up to 13 years of age have access to a smartphone.
Warning will also be visible in apps
The report also asked to show health warnings while using social media apps. For this, the committee has advised that app companies will give warning pop-up messages on the screen before or during use of the app.
In these pop-up messages, the health risks of using the app and the maximum time limit for use will be shown. The committee has asked to register the addiction of smartphone use as a public health concern. Its purpose is to quickly solve the problems arising from the use of smartphones.
Apart from this, doctors have also been asked to ask people of all ages about their smartphone usage during treatment. At the same time, similar questions have been asked to be asked while investigating depression and anxiety in teenagers.
