This line fits perfectly with the outsider actor who is today called the messiah of the poor. We are talking about Sonu Sood. During the auditions, people used to reject him without even seeing his photo. However, it was because of his confidence that he did not compromise with his dreams.

Coming from the streets of Punjab, Sonu Sood made his place in the film industry. Worked in films with Salman Khan-Shahrukh Khan. During the Covid era, he emerged as the messiah of the common people. Sonu, who once longed to work in films, has recently made his debut in direction.

The story of Sonu from struggle to success, in his own words…

Father wanted to become an engineer, on the advice of friends he came into acting line Sonu’s father used to run a clothes shop. Although his wish was that his son should become an engineer. To fulfill this dream of his father, Sonu left the streets of Monga and reached Nagpur. Here he studied electronic engineering. Along with studies, Sonu started participating in fashion shows. After gaining popularity, friends suggested that he should try acting also. Following the advice of his friends, he came to the city of dreams Mumbai in 1996.

Got many rejections in the audition journey As soon as we reached Mumbai, the first thing we went to was Film City. When we went to the gate, the watchman was not allowing us to enter inside. Sonu gave a bribe of Rs 400 and went inside. At that time, shooting of Aamir Khan’s film ‘Raja Hindustani’ was going on in Film City. Sonu started walking like this, thinking that somewhere a director-producer caught his eye. Although no one even saw. Sonu felt that the path here was not going to be easy.

Sonu said, ‘I used to think that directors cast actors while walking on the streets of Mumbai. I also roamed around Film City a lot. However, things did not work out that way at all. Then the process of audition started. Got a lot of rejections, but had confidence in myself. I knew everything would be fine, I just had to keep working hard.

Showed his photo to people, but the person in front of him did not even pay attention to it Sonu further said, ‘I had made a train pass from Borivali to Churchgate. Every day he used to go from one place to another to get work. Had taken many photographs and kept them with him. I used to go to some studio daily and give my photos. Although no one was even looking at me there. Just say keep the photo and go. I thought I should at least take a look once.

lived in a small room with 6 people Sonu had reached Mumbai with only Rs 5500, which was his own earning. They thought that with this much money they would easily survive for 1-2 months. However, this money was exhausted in just 6-7 days. They didn’t want to take too much help from home. In such a situation, he lived in a small room with 6 people.

Sonu said, ‘Initially I had taken a house on rent. The landlord had asked me for a rent of around Rs 4,000 per month. Felt like there was a roof over my head, I just had to work hard. After completing all the work, as I went to sleep, I saw a lot of rats running on the light wires. Seeing this I was blown away. I quickly walked out of the house. I started thinking whether I should take money from my family and buy a good house or just keep struggling. However, I had changed about 28-30 houses in 3-4 years.

When I did not get work in Mumbai, I turned towards South. Sonu was waiting for a big break in Mumbai. After facing rejection in Mumbai for several months, Sonu reached Hyderabad. Here he started getting work. Sonu got a chance to debut in the year 1999 with Tamil films Kallazhagar and Nainjinile.

Sonu said, ‘When I got the first film, I was jumping with joy. I felt like I finally got what I was waiting for. It was raining heavily that day, in that rain I went to the mobile booth and informed my family and friends about this success.

Credit was not given on film posters After coming into films, it happened many times with Sonu that he was removed from the posters of the film at the last moment. Very little screen time was given in the trailer. Everyone’s name was mentioned at the trailer launch, only they were left out. Sonu said that all these incidents did not make him weak but strong. Sonu believes that somewhere people used to get insecure after seeing him, that is why they deliberately sidelined him.

Sonu Sood had to face many problems in his path of acting, but he kept moving forward. Seeing his talent, he got a chance to play the role of villain in films. In the year 2002, Sonu won everyone’s hearts by playing the role of Bhagat Singh in the Bollywood film Shaheed-e-Azam.

First the director refused to see the portfolio, later he offered the film. Sonu told that one day he had reached a set where the shooting of a film was going on. He had a portfolio and by then he had worked in two South films. He went and talked to the director and also told his work experience. He requested the director to see his portfolio, but the director refused.

After a few years, when Sonu Sood became famous in the industry, the same directors were circling him to cast him in their films. The actor told that the director himself is not yet aware of this incident.

The magazine which once refused to publish the photo, later took the initiative itself. A few years ago, Stardust magazine had published an exclusive interview of Sonu Sood on its cover page. This was the same magazine which had refused to print Sonu’s pictures in its magazine. After the interview came out, Sonu reposted it and wrote – There was a day when I sent some of my photos from Punjab for the audition of Stardust, but I was rejected. Today I want to thank Stardust for this lovely cover. Gratitude.

After climbing the stairs of success in films, Sonu Sood took the initiative to serve the country during Covid-19. When the entire country was under lockdown, he helped poor immigrants reach their homes. He also provided financial and medical support. Even now Sonu continues to help the needy people through the Charity Foundation.

Regarding this he said, ‘I think it is important to do all this to stay connected with yourself. My mother says – put the ink of prayers with the pen of your life, then your name will be written not on pages but in history. When you earn blessings, people sit at home and pray for you. All this is the effect of this. I try to keep receiving blessings. The rest above will definitely show the destination and will ensure victory.
