The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google to set up artificial intelligence labs in the state. These labs will be set up under the state government’s investment promotion agency ‘Guidance’.

Industries Minister TRB Raja said that the aim of these labs is to provide skills in Artificial Intelligence to 20 lakh youth.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin signed the MoU during his visit to Google’s headquarters. The Chief Minister is currently on an official visit to the US.

Stalin’s visit is aimed at garnering support and attracting investments to boost the state’s economic development. TRB Raja said that with Stalin’s visit to the US, Tamil Nadu is entering a new era of tech.

TRB Raja said, “With this partnership, our target is to skill 2 million youth in AI through the upskilling platform ‘Naan Mudhalvan’, collaborate with startups, and enable MSMEs and the rural economy. We want our youth to become a future-ready workforce.”

Stalin also visited the offices of Apple and Microsoft in San Francisco and discussed various opportunities and exciting partnerships with these tech companies.

CM Stalin shared a post on social media platform X and said, ‘The visit to the offices of Apple, Google and Microsoft was inspiring. Discussed various opportunities and exciting partnerships. We are determined to strengthen these partnerships and make Tamil Nadu one of Asia’s leading growth engines.’

Raja said Tamil Nadu under Stalin was moving ahead with global partnerships, which would lead the state to become a trillion-dollar economy.

The Tamil Nadu government signed MOUs with several investors including Nokia, PayPal, Microchip and Yield Engineering Systems during CM Stalin’s visit to the US.

These MOUs were signed by the state government’s investment promotion agency ‘Guidance’ in the presence of CM and Industries Minister Raja.

As per the MOUs, Nokia will set up a new research and development centre in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 450 crore, creating 100 jobs. PayPal will set up an advanced development centre in Chennai, creating 1,000 jobs.

Microchip will set up a new research and development centre for semiconductor technology at Semmencherry in Chennai at a cost of Rs 250 crore, creating 1,500 jobs.

Yield Engineering Systems will set up a product development and manufacturing facility for semiconductor equipment at Sulur in Coimbatore at a cost of Rs 150 crore, creating 300 jobs.
