Tata Motors is going to launch Curve EV today (07 August). This is the first electric SUV coupe in the Indian market. The car will be equipped with more than 60 advanced safety features including 6 airbags, 360 degree camera and ADAS.
The company has confirmed that the Tata Curve EV will be launched first, followed by the ICE version in September. The Curve will be Tata’s first mass market SUV-coupe car, which will be available in both ICE and EV versions.
The company claims that the car will run 500 km on a single full charge. The concept model of Curve was introduced at the Auto Expo last year, after which its production model was introduced at the India Mobility Expo held in February this year.
The production version of the Tata Curve EV was unveiled recently.
The starting price could be Rs 20 lakh
The ex-showroom price of Tata Curve EV can start from Rs 20 lakh. Tata has not started official booking of Curve, although some dealerships of the company have started taking its offline booking.
The Curve EV will compete with the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The ICE powered Curve will compete with the Citroen Basalt. Apart from this, the car will also compete with compact SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrider, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushak, Honda Elevate and Citroen C3.
Tata’s first car with flush-type door handles
Tata Curve will be India’s first SUV coupe. The overall design of both Curve models is inspired by the vehicles in the company’s lineup. Both cars have connected LED DRL and all LED headlight setup on the bumper. The Curve ICE model has a black grill, while the EV version has a body color closed-off panel instead of the grill.
The front of the Curve EV has a charging flap like the Tata Punch. On the side, the Curve ICE version has petal-shaped dual-tone alloy wheels and the Curve EV has aerodynamic style alloy wheels. The Curve is Tata’s first car to feature flush-type door handles. At the same time, the wheel arches are squarish in shape. At the rear, both versions have a connected LED tail light setup.
Design elements include sequential turn signals, square wheel arches and a strong body cladding. The windows are finished in chrome. The rear profile features a clean bumper with a slope roof, bumper-integrated taillamps and a split aero rear spoiler. The Curve EV is designed on Tata’s new Active.EV platform. The Punch EV is also built on the same platform.
Features like Nexon will be available in Curve
Tata has not revealed the interiors of the Curve and Curve EV. However, the Curve coupe SUV is expected to get a 10.25-inch infotainment touch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver display like the Nexon. Apart from this, a panoramic sunroof, 2-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, air purifier and a premium audio system will be available.
Curve EV will come with a range of 500 kilometers
So far, no information has been revealed about the battery pack and motor of the Curve Electric SUV. However, the Curve SUV electric model is expected to have a range of more than 500 km.
There can be a choice of two battery packs in it. It will support DC fast charging and will also have functions like vehicle-to-load (V2L), drive mode and adjustable energy regeneration.
Tata Curve: Safety Features
For the safety of the passengers, it can get safety features like 6 airbags, 360 degree camera with blind spot monitor, front and rear parking sensors and electronic stability control (ESC). It can also be provided with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), under which features like lane keep assist, autonomous braking and adaptive cruise control will be available.
Tata Curve will come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine
Tata had showcased the ICE model of the Curve at the India Mobility Expo this year.
The ICE model of the Tata Curve will get the same engine and transmission setup as the Tata Nexon facelift. The ICE version of the upcoming Curve SUV coupe will get a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, which generates 113bhp of power and 260Nm of peak torque.
For transmission, it will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variant will get Tata’s new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which will generate an output of 125PS and 225Nm. Tata Curve is expected to be launched this year.
