He came to Mumbai to try his hand in acting. He struggled a lot in the beginning of his career. But on the recommendation of director Mehboob Khan, he met director Rameshwar Sharma who was working on the film ‘Bhakt Kabir’ at that time. After this, Rameshwar also gave him the role of Kashi Naresh in the film and also gave him a job of Rs 60 per month.

Bharat Bhushan had dominated the industry during his time. He had become a guaranteed hit. In the 50-60s, he was in such a phase of stardom that he started giving competition to even Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. He was seen roaming in many expensive cars. Bharat followed the advice of his elder brother Ramesh and started producing films. He made two films Basant Bahar and Barsaat Ki Raat which also became superhits. But after this, all his films proved to be flops and Bhushan went into debt and became dependent on every penny. Bharat Bhushan lost everything he had earned. His bungalows were sold, his cars were sold and people had seen him standing in the bus queue many times.

Let us tell you that according to a news published in Dainik Bhaskar, he had worked with Madhubala in the 1958 film Phagun. The pair of both was much liked at that time. During the shooting of the film, Bharat Bhushan started liking Madhubala and also wanted to marry her, but Madhubala married Kishore Kumar. Their one-sided love remained incomplete.
