He said that it is very important for boys to know about periods. During this time, she also shared an incident and told that her boyfriend had expressed his desire to see sanitary pads.
He further said, ‘I definitely got recognition in my home town through TV. Everyone used to say that my show is coming on TV. It is very difficult for someone to come from Himachal and make a name for himself in Mumbai. I come from a family where women are free to take their own decisions. My grandmother was a teacher when Indian women did not work. My grandmother used to teach plays to the students in school in those days. My grandmother used to teach Hindi. He was very fond of dancing. My mother is a housewife. There is an apple business at home.
Where did you get information about periods? In response to this question, Pratibha says, ‘I was very well educated on this in my school. Ours was an only girls’ school. My first boyfriend was from a boys’ school. I was his first female friend and he was my first male friend. I was going home from dance class. He met him on the way. I was on my periods so I was a little worried. I told him ‘Listen! Today I am on my periods. I won’t be able to walk. As soon as he heard about periods, he got a little panicky. For the first time, someone had openly talked to her about periods. He started explaining to me biologically how long this happens. How does it happen? He started explaining to me in bookish language. I laughed a little and said yes, I know.
Pratibha further says in the same interview, ‘After this, more comfort developed between us. He asked me that I had never seen a sanitary pad. My mother hides these things. I said I have extra sanitary pads and I will show them to you. I took out a sanitary pad from the bag and gave it to her. Said there is no problem in this. Then I realized that despite understanding these things, boys do not understand them. Some things are better understood through experience. Only experience gives the correct form to that knowledge. Increases your understanding further.
On the question of becoming a national crush, Pratibha Ranta said, ‘When all this was happening in the beginning, I did not believe that I would get so much love. Couldn’t understand what was happening, how it was happening. Suddenly ‘Laapta Ladies’ comes on Netflix and creates hype. This is quite exciting. Yes, it is true that I did not get as much recognition from TV as I got from ‘Missing Ladies’.
