Do you know that Twinkle Khanna was not the first choice for this film. ‘Mela’ director Dharmesh Darshan revealed that he wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai opposite Aamir Khan in the film, but things did not work out.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dharmesh Darshan was asked whether Aishwarya Rai was the first choice for ‘Mela’, to which he replied yes. He said, ‘She (Aishwarya Rai) was also my first choice for the role of Memsaab in Raja Hindustani (1996). But she had to immediately go for the Miss World Competition. I did not want to take any risk, because I wanted an actress who could give full time to films and Bollywood. It was his greatness that he never took it to heart.
