New Delhi: Salman Khan immortalised the role of Prem in the superhit films ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. All three films and their songs took Salman Khan’s career to new heights. ‘Kabootar Ja…’, ‘Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai’ are some such songs, which even today if you sit to listen to, you will be engrossed in their music. The music of these popular songs was composed by Ram Laxman.
Musician Ram Laxman was born on 16 September 1942. His real name was Vijay Patil. Very few people know that Ram Laxman was earlier known as ‘Laxman’ in the industry, but when he started his career as a musician in the film industry, he got the support of another musician ‘Ram’. Musician Ram Laxman started his film career with ‘Agent Vinod’, which came in the year 1977 and was made under the banner of Rajshri Productions. Initially, Ram-Laxman used to give music together. But, after singing a song in the film ‘Agent Vinod’ (1977), Ram’s health deteriorated and he said goodbye to the world.

Composed music for 3 superhit films of Salman Khan
Laxman could not forget his friend Ram and changed his name to Ram Laxman. He decided to keep this name and later composed music in films under this name. He got recognition as a composer from Sooraj Barjatya’s films. He composed music for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989)’, whose songs became superhits. For this, he also received the Filmfare Best Music Director Award. From here his luck shone and after this he also composed music for the films ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994)’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ (1999). Apart from this, he also composed music for films like ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Tarana’ and ‘Anmol’.
Composed music for more than 150 films
Musician Ram Laxman composed music for Marathi and Bhojpuri films apart from Hindi during his career spanning more than four decades. He gave music for more than 150 films during his career. According to the IANS report, Ram Laxman worked with famous film directors like Manmohan Desai, Mahesh Bhatt, GP Sippy, Anil Ganguly and Sooraj Barjatya. ‘Swar Kokila’ Lata Mangeshkar and SP Balasubramaniam have lent their voices in most of Ram Laxman’s films. Famous musician Ram Laxman, who made his name in the music world in a very short time, passed away on 22 May 2021.
