New Delhi: National Award winning film ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ was re-released in theaters on Friday 18 October. Veteran actor Anupam Kher calls it a great cult film. The film was released for the first time on 22 September 2006. It won the Best Feature Film award at the 54th National Film Awards function. The film, made for Rs 3.75 crore, had earned Rs 6.67 crore. The actor had already told IANS that it is the brainchild of writer Jaideep Sahni. The film’s producers Raj and Savita Hiremath told IANS that it was their idea to turn the film into a brand.
Raj and Savita Hiremath belonged to the world of advertising before making the film. He bet on a story that was very simple. There was not even an iota of glamor in the film, for which Bollywood was known at that time. Savita told IANS, ‘We wanted to produce a film that would entertain people and also tried to make it a brand. It was not just a film for us. We wanted this film to earn money and run for a long time.
Movie liked abroad also
Savita told, ‘You are seeing your family in the theater and laughing at it. You are not laughing because the actors in the film are making double meaning jokes or they are delivering some of those dialogues. You laugh while watching a movie because something like this has happened to you. The humor of ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ directed by Dibakar Banerjee is being liked not only in India but also abroad. Raj told IANS, ‘We went to Cannes and screened the film in the initial stages. People were laughing and saying, ‘What is this?’
The film is inspired by the author’s true story
Dibakar Banerjee further said, ‘They were laughing at the scene in which Mataji was just saying Namaste. At first glance, it was not funny for Mataji to say Namaste, but people were rolling in laughter. The makers also revealed that the first part of the film is based on something that actually happened to its writer Jaideep Sahni. He was a part of ‘Company’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Chak De! Also known for other cult films like ‘India’ and ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’. Jaideep’s family also owned land, which is being grabbed by the builder. The second part of the film is driven by his desire to take revenge against the man who took away his family’s land.
