TikTok has asked the US Supreme Court to temporarily stop the law implemented by President Joe Biden. Under this law, China’s ByteDance (TikTok owner) will have to face a ban in America on January 19.
Due to this law, TikTok has only one option in America at this time. That is, the company should sell itself to an American company. If it does not do this then it will have to leave the American market. TikTok has 170 million (about 17 crore) users in America.
According to the law passed by Joe Biden in April, the company will be blocked from the US App Store, and will also be removed from web hosting services. TikTok has claimed in the petition that it has more than 170 million monthly American users in the US. In the petition, the company has said that Congress has imposed the biggest and unprecedented speech restriction till date. TikTok said that if this law is implemented, it will shut down one of America’s most popular speech platforms a day before the President’s inauguration.
Earlier, there was news of layoffs in ByteDance. According to the report, more than 700 workers of ByteDance are being laid off in Malaysia. However, ByteDance later clarified that less than 500 workers will be affected. ByteDance has more than 1.10 lakh workers in more than 200 cities across multiple countries.
