- Wedding Invitation Card Scam Explained; WhatsApp APK Files Fraud (How To Detect)

last Recently, a person in Bikaner, Rajasthan received the APK file of a wedding card from an unknown number on WhatsApp. When the young man opened it and saw that the message was not from anyone he knew. He thought that someone had sent him this card by mistake. But he could not resist the temptation to open the card and look at it.
But the wedding card received from an unknown number cost him dearly. After about 4 days, Rs 4.50 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account, after which the victim complained to the cyber police.
Police investigation revealed that the wedding card was actually spam sent by scammers. While the young man was reading the wedding card, the scammers were planning to wipe out his bank account by hacking his mobile.
This is a new and unique method of cyber fraud. As soon as the wedding season arrives, cyber criminals are making people their victims by sending wedding cards on messaging apps.

Question- What is wedding invitation scam?
answer- Wedding season is going on across the country. People are busy with many things during weddings. In such a situation, many times we do not get time to go to the homes of friends or relatives and give them wedding invitations and instead send e-cards online on WhatsApp. People download the e-card without thinking as soon as they see the message. Cyber criminals are taking advantage of this and making people their victims.
He sends a message of an APK (Android Application Package) to people on WhatsApp. It is a file format used for applications running on the Android operating system.
When you read a wedding card with APK, a suspicious application gets downloaded to your mobile in the back end. Due to this, cyber criminals hack your phone.
Question- What precautions should be taken if a wedding card comes on WhatsApp?
answer- For some time now, the trend of sending wedding invitation cards through WhatsApp has increased rapidly. Everyone sends invitations to their friends or relatives through online messages while sitting at home. If such APK message comes to your phone from an unknown number, then be alert. This message may be fraudulent.

answer- Many times, due to an APK file, such an application gets downloaded in our phone, which can harm the phone. The phone may be hacked or malware may be downloaded from such applications. Hackers can take complete control of the phone through APK file. Such apps work in the backend, due to which most of the users are not aware of it.
However, to identify it, you can take the help of Play Protect feature of Google Play Store. It scans the smartphone and gives information about the apps which are hidden in the mobile. If there is any kind of suspicious app in your phone, then this feature will give you its information on the screen.
- First of all, open Google Play Store in your smartphone.
- Now click on your profile icon.
- Now go to the menu section and click on Play Protect option.
- As soon as you click on Play Protect, a page will open for scanning. Click on the scan button on it.
- Now you will see Scanning in Progress… written during phone scanning.
- If there is no harmful app in your phone then you will see the status of No Harmful Apps Found.
- If you do not get this status, then information about that harmful app present in the phone will be visible on the screen.
Question- What is the difference between APK and PDF?
answer- PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format in which images and text information can be saved. Whereas APK file format is used to store software packages for Android operating system.
This file format is necessary to install and run Android apps. Wedding card PDFs usually do not contain any links. PDF is written on it.
If you get any such PDF or message asking you to click on the link to download the e-card, do not fall into the trap. This could be fraud.
