India’s largest social media platform Whatsapp has banned them by taking immediate action on more than 8.4 million accounts in just one month. This step has been taken by Meta in response to the misuse of the platform in the case of fraud activity. According to the company, the decision to ban these accounts was taken after scams and reports of suspicious activities, which reported many users such fraud activity.

The transparency report of META reflects the company’s efforts to maintain a safe environment for users. It was emphasized that these steps were taken for the security of the platform. The report showed that Meta banned about 8.45 million WhatsApp accounts in India, following the provisions of Section 4 (1) (D) and Section 3A (7) of the Information Technology Act. This step was taken after constant complaints and efforts to increase security.

META report revealed that the ban was imposed between August 1 and August 31. Of the total banned accounts, 1.66 million were blocked due to serious violations, while the remaining account was banned after being found suspicious in the investigation. Especially during monitoring, more than 1.6 million accounts were banned on the complaint of no users, as they were misused.

WhatsApp has given many reasons behind banning the account on a large scale:

Violation of service conditions: This includes sending a large number of messages, spamming, joining fraud activity and sharing misleading or harmful information.

Wrong activity: The account involved in illegal activity was also banned as part of WhatsApp’s commitment to comply with legal.

Complaints of users: The WhatsApp platform also takes action on the basis of complaints of users due to harassment, abuse or inappropriate behavior on the platform. These complaints have been one of identifying and fixing the bad account.
