Mumbai. Superstar Shahrukh Khan and Sunny Deol are two big names of Bollywood. Both of them last worked in Yash Chopra’s romantic film ‘Dar’ in 1993. Since then both of them never worked with each other. Both were never seen together in public. Last year, Sunny Deol broke his silence on the long fight between the two. The Gadar actor had only said on the long-running controversy that ‘everyone has moved on’ and is now ‘happy and satisfied’.
The rift between Sunny Deol and Shahrukh Khan started in 1993 during the shooting of the film ‘Darr’. Shahrukh Khan made his Bollywood debut with the film Deewana. Sunny was definitely in the leading role in the film Darr but Shahrukh Khan’s role was more powerful. In the film, Shahrukh Khan keeps chasing the film’s heroine Juhi Chawla. People liked Shahrukh Khan’s Villain very much and the film got tremendous success at the box office. Shahrukh Khan got the credit for the success of the film. Sunny Deol was not happy with this. From here a rift arose between the two actors. Then both the artists did not talk to each other for 16 years.
After the release of the film Dar in 1993, Sunny Deol had said in an interview to Filmfare, ‘I will never work with Yash Chopra in future. He has broken my trust. He has cheated on me. I don’t have good memories related to him.
In 2019, Sunny Deol had said in another interview, ‘People like my films. He also likes Shahrukh Khan’s films. My only concern about the film Darr was that I did not know that the villain would be made a hero. I work in films wholeheartedly and trust people. I like to work under trust. Unfortunately, there are many actors in the film industry who do not work in this manner. Maybe he wants to achieve stardom this way.
This is how the enmity went away
The long-standing enmity between Sunny Deol and Shahrukh Khan ended in 2023 when Gadar 2 was released in theatres. Sunny Deol had organized a success party. Many veteran actors of the industry including Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan participated in the celebration. Sunny Deol was seen hugging Shahrukh in the party. Sunny Deol had said, ‘Everyone has moved ahead in life. We all know what we did wrong or right. Time heals all wounds. I am very happy that everyone came to my party.
Responding to the question of not talking to Shahrukh Khan for 16 years, he had said, ‘It is not that I did not talk but I distanced myself from him. Anyway, I am not very sociable, so we never met. So there is no point in talking.
