This has been revealed by casting director Mukesh Chhabra. He also revealed that finding the character of ‘Lakshman’ proved to be a big task. Because after Ranbir, actors were not ready to play second-rate roles.
Recently, casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed the secrets of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, for which cinema lovers were searching for answers for a long time. He told in Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast why Ranbir Kapoor was the best choice for this role.
Why was Ranbir cast for Ram?
He said, ‘Nitesh bhai had decided to cast Ranbir a long time ago and once you watch the film, you will see why it is such an apt casting. I think the actors I have worked with the most in my career are Ranbir and Rajkummar Rao. No one can beat Ranbir in terms of acting.’ Explaining what he meant, Mukesh further said, ‘He doesn’t worry much about hits and flops. He is only concerned about acting.’ Mukesh Chhabra further added, ‘I have seen Ranbir Kapoor closely. I have seen his performance in Rockstar, Tamasha, Sanju, Bombay Velvet… His biggest quality is that he seems effortless. With some actors, you see them putting in extra efforts in workshops, but when you see them on screen, you can’t tell.’
This will be Lakshman’s first Hindi film
Mukesh also spoke about some other key roles in the film and said that a big name has been finalised for Hanuman, while for the role of Laxman, they have chosen a newcomer. He said, “We have found a lovely actor for Laxman. A lot of people auditioned for this role. But I am very happy with the actor we have gone with, this will be his first film in Bollywood.”
Laxman becomes a TV actor
He further added that the main characteristic of Laxman in the film is that he loves his brother and does not challenge his opinion. He also needs to maintain his dignity, but he cannot dominate the conversation. But finding someone to play this ‘simple, straightforward’ character proved difficult. For this role, we chose an actor who has worked a lot in television. He is a lovely boy. We could not have found a better Laxman than him.
Hint given about the second part of Ramayana
Mukesh Chhabra believes that the casting of such a character is done with a lot of respect and authenticity. He hinted that the second part of Ramayana can also come. He said that the casting process of the sequel is still going on. Not only this, apart from the two parts of Ramayana, a film on Hanuman can also be made. In Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor is playing the role of Ram, Sai Pallavi Sita and South actor Yash is playing the role of Ravana.
