New Delhi. Dharmendra’s second marriage was no less than a shock for his first wife Prakash Kaur and his children. But even after years of marriage with Hema Malini, her children had no information about their father’s second marriage. Esha Deol and Ahana Deol never felt anything different in their relationship. For many years, Hema had hidden from her daughters about their father’s first wife and their step-siblings. In the fourth class, a child taunted Esha Deol and called her the one with two mothers. Then he came to know about this.
This has been mentioned in Hema Malini’s biography ‘Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl’ written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee. Isha recalls the moment when she was in fourth grade when a classmate asked her, ‘You have two mothers, right?’ Isha was completely shocked after hearing this question and she immediately replied and said ‘What nonsense! I have only one mother’. But, as soon as he returned home, he talked to his mother about this conversation that took place in school.
When I reached home I narrated the incident to my mother.
The actress has told, ‘As soon as I reached home, I told my mother that a friend was asking me this question. I think this was the time when my mother decided to tell me the truth. Imagine, we were in fourth class and we did not know anything, nowadays children have become very smart. During this, Isha’s mother Hema told her that her father Dharmendra has another family.
Mother told me but I didn’t feel bad
Isha said, ‘So, then I realized that my mother had married someone who was already married to another woman and he also had a family. But to be honest, I never felt bad about it. Till today I don’t think there is anything wrong in it and I give full credit to my parents for never making me feel uncomfortable about it.
Papa used to come every day, but…
Isha told that father used to come home every day and eat food with her but never stayed with her and on the days when he stayed, she wondered if he was okay. She shared, ‘When I was young, I used to go to my friends’ houses where I would see both the parents around. That’s when I realized that it’s normal to have fathers around too. But somehow, we were prepared in such a way that it did not affect me much. I was very satisfied with my mother and I loved my father very much.
