Diljit Dosanjh has given information about his upcoming film on social media.
Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Punjab-95’ will not be released in India. This film is based on the life of Sikh human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda. Khalda had raised his voice against the atrocities on Sikhs in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had demanded 120 cuts in the film, but the film producer, director and Khalda’s own family members were not ready for it. After which it has been decided that the film will not be seen in theaters in India.
The film is scheduled to release on February 7 in Australia, UK (United Kingdom), Canada and America. While sharing a post on social media, Diljit himself has told about the release date of the film. Diljit wrote in the post- Full movie, no cuts. It is clear from Diljit’s post that this film is going to be released without cuts.
Diljit recently took out Dil Luminati Tour and did live concerts across the country. After this, on January 1, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. When Diljit saluted PM Modi, the PM also welcomed Dosanjh by saying Sat Shri Akal.

Censor Board had asked to make these changes in the film
- The Censor Board had ordered the filmmakers to make changes in all those scenes of the film where Punjab and its district Tarn Taran Sahib have been mentioned.
- There was also a demand to remove the references to Canada and UK shown in the film.
- The title of the film has been kept as Punjab 95. Jaswant Singh Khalda went missing in the year 1995, in such a situation the committee of the Censor Board had demanded that changes should be made in this title. This may hurt people’s sentiments.
- The committee demanded that the name of the film’s main character Jaswant Singh Khalda should also be changed.
- Gurbani scenes should be removed from the film.
Khalda’s family had opposed the cuts
Last year, when the release of this film was stopped, Jaswant Singh Khalda’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalda had condemned the Censor Board. She said the film was a true biopic of her husband’s life, made with the consent of his family, and should be released without any cuts.
Paramjit Kaur Khalda had also told that about 4 years ago her family had given permission to director Honey Trehan to make the film only after reading the script of this film. He also stressed that Diljit Dosanjh was selected to play the role of Jaswant Singh Khalda and his family is completely satisfied with the selection.

The story of those Sikhs who were killed in a fake encounter Jaswant Singh Khalda was a courageous and dedicated human rights activist. Who raised his voice against the atrocities and human rights violations against Sikhs in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s. He had revealed that during that period thousands of Sikh youth were detained illegally and killed in fake encounters. Also, Jaswant had made a big disclosure that the bodies of the Sikh youth killed in the encounter were cremated secretly.
Data of fake encounters was taken from cremation grounds Khalda had exposed these disappearances and murders being carried out by the Punjab Police and administration. At that time, he visited the cremation grounds of Amritsar and gathered information that more than 6,000 bodies were secretly cremated there. He had also shared this information on international forums, raising many questions on India’s human rights record.

Family’s allegation – custodial murder Khalda had to pay the price of fighting for the rights of Sikhs with his life. The family alleges that on September 6, 1995, the police kidnapped Khalda from his house. After this he was tortured and murdered in police custody.
The police did not even register an FIR in this case. After which, Jaswant’s wife petitioned the Supreme Court and the court ordered the CBI to investigate.

6 police officers found guilty in investigation According to CBI investigation, Khalda was washing the car outside his house on September 6, 1995. During this time some people came and took him away with them. Later it was revealed that those people were police officers.
About one and a half months later, on October 27, the body of Jaswant Singh Khalda was found in the Sutlej river. After investigation, the court found 6 Punjab Police officers guilty and sentenced them to 7 years imprisonment. The High Court had commuted the sentence of 4 out of 6 accused to life imprisonment.
